DESCRIPTION:

Get Ready to Play Rough

Shay Beckham grew up idolizing her brother’s best friend, star quarterback Joe Reilly. There was no one in their Texas town who had the moves to match Joe on or off the field. Years later, he’s still a player who has what it takes to drive any hot-blooded woman wild. But Shay isn’t a kid with a bad case of hero-worship anymore. She’s grown-up and independent, with her feet on the ground and a serious head on her shoulders. If she could just say the same for Joe.

It’s been fifteen years, but Joe Reilly hasn’t forgotten the skinny little kid who used to follow him around like a shadow. What he can’t get over is that the skinny shadow has grown into one hell of an incredible woman. One any man in his right mind would kill to get his hands on. And one who seems to be completely immune to him. He knows he and Shay could have something special together. If he could only convince her he’s about more than just the game.

MY REVIEW:

Shay Beckham is secretly in love with his brother's best friend Joe Reilly since she was a child.
Now they are grown-up. Shay is a successful designer and Joe after playing as a quarterback in the NFL is now retired due to a bad injury. After several years they see each other again, back where all had started. Shay is still attraced to him, but worried about Joe's reputation as a player in and out the field. She doesn't trust him and doesn't want him to break her heart.
"She'd waited all these years, never expecting this to happen. Now she needed to dredge up some measure of trust to make it true"
Joe is surprised to discover that Shay is no more a little skinny kid, but a grown beautiful woman. He doesn't want to tell her about his charity works because he doesn't want Shay to think he's using this as an excuse to create an image for himself. He knows that to win Shay's heart he has to prove her to be a new man.
"Life moves along very fast. You have to grab onto it while you can and hang on with both hands. Good stuff doesn't come along that often"
The story is sweet and had great potential but Shay, even if she's smart and funny, thinks too much and always the same things, giving the book a slow pace. The erotic scenes are the ones that keep some interest on the book. Thanks Joe!
I found myself not emotionally involved neither with the characters nor with the story. Sad because I'd loved to see more about Shay personal story, but this author definitely knows how to write love and erotic scenes.

  1. There are so many books out there with the girl falling for her brother's best friend (and vice versa) we've heard them all, it takes a good writer to make it different and special enough to stand out.
